Case study: A Capital Experience – Boosting employability skills
In December 2015, Telereal Trillium hosted 21 students aged between 16-17, and teachers from Oldham College and Cirencester College. The event, part of A Capital Experience, was organised in partnership with Career Ready, a national charity linking employers with schools and colleges to open up the world of work to young people.
The students were given an introduction to Telereal Trillium and how our business works; masterclasses in networking and social media; and the opportunity to practise what they learned through a ‘Speed Networking’ session with volunteers from the business.
In total, 1,600 students from across England, Wales and Northern Ireland, who are all starting the Career Ready programme at their school or college, came to London. Telereal Trillium was one of more than 60 of the capital’s employers to support the event.
Career Ready aims to make young people work-ready by delivering a programme of mentoring, masterclasses, workplace visits and internships in schools and colleges across the UK. Telereal Trillium has been working with the charity for over five years as part of our ‘Helping People into the Workplace’ community programme.
Anne Spackman, Chief Executive of Career Ready, said: “The visits that took place across London today mark the first step in our students’ journeys. For many, this will have been their first visit to London, and to walk into the glass and marble towers of the capital and realise that they are welcome and that someone like them could work there, is an inspirational moment for these students. We hope that moment of inspiration will stay with them throughout the programme and motivate them to aim higher in their future careers.
“We are incredibly grateful to all the businesses and individuals who hosted our students today and we hope those involved enjoyed it as much as our students did.”
