14 November 2014
Sunday, 16 November marks the international day of social action and giving for Mitzvah Day 2014. Telereal Trillium will once again be supporting St Mungo’s Broadway as part of their work to help homeless people rebuild their lives.
Every year an astounding 35,000+ people take part in activities through social action initiatives underpinned by Mitzvah Day’s mission to reduce hardship and poverty, care better for the environment, and give a little joy.
St Mungo’s Broadway run an innovative Recovery College offering a variety of free courses aimed at people who have experienced homelessness. The college, based in Southwark, provides safe and inclusive learning opportunities, supporting recovery through involvement in learning.
Susan Cain, Head of Corporate Responsibility at Telereal Trillium said: “We wanted to make sure we chose an initiative that could directly contribute to the development of the individuals, so we decided on an IT skills drop-in session for clients at the Recovery College.”
“Volunteers from across our business will be providing basic training on how to complete tasks like setting up an e-mail account, how to use the internet, creating an Excel spreadsheet, using Microsoft Word, and developing a CV. We hope to be able to provide that initial support and stepping stone to contribute to their preparation for, and aim of getting back into the workplace.”
St Mungo’s Broadway is one of Telereal Trillium’s main charity partners and were chosen due to their alignment with Telereal Trillium’s own corporate responsibility programme of ‘Helping people into the workplace’.
Mitzvah Day founder and chair, Laura Marks said: “We’re delighted that Telereal Trillium, such a valued Mitzvah Day partner has once again decided to take part in this national day of social action and continues to foster its relationship with St Mungo’s Broadway. This is genuine, meaningful community building and we wouldn’t be where we are today without the continued support and backing of companies like Telereal Trillium. I thank them personally for their support.”
This will be the third consecutive year Telereal Trillium has supported Mitzvah Day.
