Telereal Trillium has let 16,000 sq ft of Halifax office space to Calderdale Council. The former Jobcentre at 19 Horton Street will become the new Halifax Customer First and Corporate Contact Centre, a key public facing office as part of the council’s office rationalisation programme.
The site was vacated by the DWP in November 2012 and Telereal Trillium successfully negotiated the assignment of the remaining 13 years on the lease to the council within months of vacation.
A Telereal Trillium spokesperson said: “We are pleased to work with the Calderdale Council to provide a local office space fit for their needs and supporting their current office consolidation efforts”.
Calderdale Council’s cabinet member for communities, Cllr Pauline Nash, said: “I’m delighted that work is underway to provide this great new facility. Halifax Customer First will provide a single point of access, meaning local people can get the services and information they need in a more convenient and efficient way. We are committed to providing a high standard of service whilst delivering value for money.”
The leasehold liabilities of the Horton Street site was passed to Telereal Trillium in 1998 as part of its contract with Department for Work and Pension, known as PRIME. The implementation of the PRIME contract allows the department to vacate their buildings without incurring penalties and has enabled DWP to be at the forefront of achieving efficiency and cost savings within government.
